A PART APART
The common denominator of my research, which unfolds through different media and approaches diverse subjects, is the idea of limit and it’s conceptual limits. My painting explores the very thin line between figuration and abstraction, my conceptual work explores the limits of language and ambiguity of knowledge while my installations often subvert mechanism of cognition.

This installation is comprised entirely of monotype etchings dealing with mark making and gestural expressions coming from the urban experience that are supposed to be the outcome of a personal and idiosyncratic lyricism but that, because of context, become anonymous and repetitive ornamentation. The gestural and violent mark meant to assert our uniqueness and set us apart us from the rest belongs to a shared impulse, which characterizes the group we are a part of.

A part apart is a play on words meant to emphasize the limit on which the narrative of the human condition unfolds: the thin line between belonging and alienation. We are a part of life but we are also capable of to being apart from it thanks to our highly articulated consciousness and ability to reflect upon it and ourselves. This is the limit on which we exist.
